➫ ➬ ➫ We’re deprioritizing social media.
We’re burned out on what used to be a great place to see other artists’ work and cat videos.
Now it’s all “let’s hire evil engineers to psychologically hijack people’s brains, make them feel like tasered sludge, and charge them money to even be seen 👀 in the process”.
And frankly, we want our time back to make some work and make Art Slice.
We will still be posting clips to all of our platforms but our goal is to phase that out over time.

¿Que es Art Slice?
Art Slice is an occasional** dive into art, artists, and history brought to you by us: visual artists and art historian Stephanie Dueñas and Russell Shoemaker.
Art Slice is part storytelling, part rowdy, irreverent, and part deep looking at art we admire, especially the kind we feel have been overlooked.
We recommend starting with one of the following:
Yasuo Kuniyoshi part 1 [Episode 27] A young Yas follows the trail of Japanese migrants to the USA, find art late in his life…melding his unique perspective of American life with his beloved Japanese folk tales. Unfortunately World War II is just around the corner… [highly recommend watching the video version here]
Agnes Pelton [Episode 20] An artist leaves New York City (New York City, New York City) to a tiny desert town so she can make glowing, meditative work…
Purple w/ Caldwell Tanner [LDCTC 007] Grimaces, snails, and your color associations with Purple… [highly recommend watching the video version here]
Maria Martins & Marcel Duchamp [Episode 17] A wealthy diplomat’s wife, making creepy yet seductive sculptures, warms the glacial retired Marcel…
Vincent Van Gogh X Utagawa Hiroshige [Episode 08] Pushing against the artist as infallible master, we show how Van Gogh struggled and was forever changed by Japanese Ukiyo-E prints…
Mongol Zurag: Art of Resistance [Episode 29] We speak with Professor Orna Tsultem on the rediscovery of Mongolian art during the height of Soviet Realism, and how it has reemerged to critique the Neo-Liberalism of today. [highly recommend watch the video version here]

How did we get here?
Art Slice was conceived during a cross-country road trip in 2020, out of our shared love for art and our general ambivalence towards art institutions. When we began releasing episodes in 2021, podcasting for us quickly became an artist expression in itself.
Who are we?
We met in 2015 on a Viridian Green Phthalo Green couch and quickly hit it off, becoming co-parents to two cats…which grew to three, then four…and now back to three (RIP sweet Frankie).
Stephanie is a Mexican-American visual artist and art historian who’s worked in museums both nationally and internationally, including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy.
Russell is a visual artist. His work has shown in the Elmhurst Museum of Contemporary Art, Scope, and various galleries. He's taught art to students of all ages and even helped open an International Art Academy in China.
We have collaborated with museums like the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Momentary and all sorts of artists and creators like Stuart Semple (artist), Caldwell Tanner (artist / naddpod), Sema Rao, Renn Dahl (PinkMoth Tattoo), Knockaboutmedia, Isabella Segalovich, Curious Objects Podcast, Jack and Mark from Museum Bums, Rumwolf, Hello Print Friend, Klaire Lockheart and many of our very talented listeners.
Bryan Knotts conceptualized and designed our OG logo.
**If you’d like these episodes to be more frequent - it’s honestly a pipe dream, one of us would have to quit their day job - and Art Slice is already a niche within a niche - but hey, if enough of you support us here - you never know.
